Benefiting the Humane Society of Harris County, the 13th Annual Pet Parade will be held Saturday, March 31 at the entrance to Longleaf at Callaway Community off of Ga. Hwy. 354, Pine Mountain, Ga. There will be prizes for several categories, including best outfit and best bonnet. There will also be a raffle, music and following the parade there will be an Easter Dog Biscuit hunt. Heart disease accounts for 1 in 3 deaths in the U.S. With statistics like this there is a good chance everyone is impacted in one way or another. St. Francis Hospital and the Greater American Heart Association have partnered together to bring the “Red Sofa Tour” to the community. The purpose of the tour is to raise awareness about the risks of heart disease and stroke in an engaging red sofa display. The community will be able to take part in the campaign by taking a picture or video on the red sofa and posting it to social media with #SFHRedSofaTour to tell people why heart health is important to them. Each week those who participate in the social media campaign will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a prize. Tour stops include:

April 28-May 4: Mercedes Benz of Columbus

May 7-18: St. Francis Butler Pavilion

May 19: Uptown Columbus Market Days

May 21-25: St. Francis Columbus Clinic

The Fort Benning Flea Market and post-wide yard sale will be held 8 a.m.-2 p.m. April 7 on Stilwell Field. Flea market booth space is available: $15 for a 10x10 or $25 for a 10x20. Tables and chairs are also available for rent: $8 per table and $1 for a chair. To register for a booth, call 706-545-7978. There is no fee for admission. Guests who do not have a military ID should plan to enter Fort Benning through the I85 Gate, where they will stop for a visitor’s pass.

The April Fool’s Hike, scheduled for Saturday, is an all-day, guided 23-mile adventure winding along the entire length of the Pine Mountain Trail ending near Warm Springs, Ga. Long distance hiking experience, ample water, snacks and sturdy hiking boots required. This is a moderate to strenuous hike with a lunch break at halfway point. Return transportation will be provided. Meet at Callaway Country Store Overlook Parking Lot. Participants must pre-register and pre-pay; there is limited space and there will be no walk-ins.
